Cabot manufactures two types of fumed metal oxides: fumed silica under the Cab-O-Sil® trade name, and fumed alumina under the SpectrAl® trade name. Cabot fumed metal oxides are manufactured using a continuous process to meet rigorous specifications and to satisfy end use performance requirements. Customers choose Cabot products based on performance, quality, reliability, service, technical innovation, and price.
Fumed silica is an ultra-fine, high –purity particle used as a reinforcing, thickening, abrasive, thixotropic, suspending, or anti-caking agent in a wide variety of products produced for the automotive, construction, microelectronics, and consumer products industries. These products include adhesives, sealants, cosmetics, inks, toners, silicone rubber, coatings, polishing slurries, and pharmaceuticals. Fumed silica improves flow properties of powdered product and provides rheology control for liquids. Cab-O-Sil® products offer superior rheology control, reinforcement, free flow, purity, and hydro-phobicity.
Fumed alumina, also an ultra-fine, high-purity particle, is used as an abrasive, absorbent, or barrier agent in a variety of products, such as inkjet media, lighting, coatings, cosmetics, and polishing slurries. SpectrAl® products are unique because of their unusual particle characteristics, crystallinity, and high purity.
Cabot FMO products also include the Cab-O-Sperse® and SpectrAl® TG lines.
